The Frederick Douglass Academy boys' lacrosse club will hopefully be expanded in a few years to be established as a Public Schools Athletic League lacrosse team. An exciting and historic event took place last Thursday at Frederick Douglass Academy VI School in Far Rockaway. PTA President Serena Peterson and Fundraising Chairperson Alice Dorsey, along with staff and members, announced the genesis of FDA's first sports club for boys/girls lacrosse.

The registration was a tremendous success as PTAPresident Serena Peterson stated that seventy student-athletes rushed and signed up to participate in "America's First Sport". It was heart warming when even a sick student called in to make sure she registered.

FDA expresses an appreciation to St. John's University Defensive Coordinator John Kutner. He visited the students at FDA and discussed the sport of lacrosse and its wonderful academic opportunities. Atremendous day with a true sense of school spirit was displayed throughout the event.

Prominent and influential guests showed their support by attending: Kevin Pruitt- Realtor and Far Rockaway High school graduate, Thurman Boyce who represented from Councilman James Sanders' office, Shareef Jeter from the Rockaway Development and Revitalization Corporation. Special thanks also goes to Linda Alfred, Principal of FDA and to Ralph Richardson for showing their generous support.
