Flowers Bloom At New Rockaway Artist Alliance's Exhibit
"Flowers" is the first gallery event to be held at RoCA (the Rockaway Center for the Arts) this year, bringing the flowers of the world to life in a unique format. With words, watercolors, pencil, pastel, film and digital photography, acrylics and oils, embroidery, quilt, appliqué and even digital painting, each of the 21 artists has brought their own touch to the perennial subject and found something new within it.
"I am that woman who stops at every bouquet of roses to sniff out their secrets," said photographer Arianna Rose, whose featured works are "Citrus Candy" and "Intimacy." Artist Ludmila Bokov also has her own take on the subject, starting with a jacket as her canvas and taking her flowery imagery far beyond mere decoration in "Irises."
"I think of these paintings as portraits of the spirits of nature; they reflect my vision of…the energies at work in the universe," said featured artist Sheryl Humphrey about the ephemeral beauty of flowers.
An opening reception at the gallery is scheduled for January 21 from 1-3 p.m. and will include entertainment by guitarist and artistic guitar maker T.K. Kearney. Refreshments will be served.
The RAA is also accepting submissions for its upcoming photography show. This juried exhibition is open to all types of photography, with an entry deadline of February 9.
