Road Rage As Construction Ties Up Rockaway

The new Rockaway mantra has become "You can't get there from here," especially for those who have to travel the east-west road network that includes three major roads: Beach Channel Drive; Rockaway Beach Boulevard and the Rockaway Freeway. Due to construction, all three are now truncated or cut off completely in several areas. For example, Beach 62 Street and Beach Channel Drive is down to one lane in each direction and even that is cut further by the construction crews at times. At the same time, The Freeway westbound is cut off at Beach 62 Street and Rockaway Beach Boulevard is cut down to one lane at Beach 56 Street for construction. Pictured, Rockaway Beach Boulevard will remain closed from Beach 73 Street to Beach 68 Street for a few months to facilitate Arverne By The Sea infrastructure construction.

The Rockaway Freeway is cut off at Beach 73 Street, but that stretch of the freeway is due to be reopened as long as Rockaway Beach Boulevard is closed. For now, however, it remains closed.
