Claudette Alexander Home Health Aide

Claudette Alexander, a longtime Rockaway resident, died December 27. She was 59.

Alexander, a home health aide, was born on June 22, 1947 in Jamaica, West Indies. She was a member of the Geddes Town S.D.A. Church in Jamaica, the Solid Rock S.D.A. Church in Far Rockaway, and Village S.D.A. Church.

Alexander is survived by her husband, Ronald; children, Dulet, Nelsa, Dwight, Sandra and Norma; sisters, Lydia Hall and Vienna Pantry; brothers, Rudolph, Webster and Devon Styles; grandchildren, Ricardo, Vaughn, Monique, Kadija, Tiffany, Tevin, Rajay and Niajah; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jeremiah C. Gaffney's Funeral Home. A service was held at Solid Rock S.D.A. Church in Far Rockaway. Interment was at Geddes Town in St. Mary, Jamaica.

Shirley Jeonie Beaton

Homemaker

Shirley Jeonie Beaton, a longtime Rockaway resident, died January 5.

Beaton, a homemaker, was born on March 24, 1948 in Guyana, South America.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Henry and Rebecca Beaton of Bush Lot Village, Essequibo Coast, Guyana; uncle, George Gilkes of Uitvlugt, Guyana; and aunt, Winnifred Braithwaite.

Beaton is survived by her parents, Kathleen and Charles Gilkes; children, Nigel, Johnny and Rosenda; grandson, Kael (Saima); brothers, Ronald, Lennox and Floyd; sisters-in-law, Nora, Debbie, Janice and Rhonda; aunts, Griselda, Henrietta, Eretta, Loretta, Lucille, Carmen and Alberta Watkins; uncles, Barnette and Allan; nieces, Abigail, Kenisha, Monique, Stacy, Nadine and Nylia; nephews, Helon, John, Leason, Patrick and Deuel; cousins, the Beaton, DeFreita, Williams, Lynch, Braithwaite, Boston, Floy, Franklin, David, Bowen, Gudge and Blackman Families; friends, Jennifer Howard, Sarah Oudkirk, Veronica Headley, Faye Blackman, Joyce Patrick and Ann Cyrus; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jeremiah C. Gaffney's Funeral Home. A service was held at Barrett Funeral Services in Brooklyn. Interment was at La Belle Alliance Cemetery in Guyana.

Deborah Lorraine Boyd

State Parole Secretary

Deborah Lorraine Boyd, a longtime Rockaway resident, died December 23. She was 38.

Boyd, a state parole secretary, was born on July 1, 1968 in Brooklyn. She was a member of The Greater Allen A.M.E. Cathedral and Victory Choir.

Boyd is survived by her parents, Marion and Franklin; brothers, Darryl and David; grandmother, Ethel Emmanuel; six aunts; niece, Shante; nephews, Anthony, Kasheen, Rhamel, Rhameek and David Jr; sister-in-law, Linda; godson, Robert; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jeremiah C. Gaffney's Funeral Home. A service was held at The Greater Allen A.M.E. Cathedral in Jamaica; Interment was at Pinelawn Cemetery in Farmingdale, New York.

Nicholas P. Cholakis

Proprietor, Breakers Restaurant

Nicholas P. Cholakis, a lifelong Rockaway resident, died January 10.

Cholakis, a proprietor and former owner of the family-operated Breakers Restaurant, a longtime popular eatery in Rockaway Park, was born in Rockaway Beach.

He was preceded in death by his father, Peter Cholakis; mother, Terpsehory Menides Cholakis; and brother, John Cholakis.

Cholakis is survived by his wife, Chrisanthe Doscas Cholakis; sons, Peter N. and Gus N. Cholakis; daughter, Terpse N. Gentile; brother, Leon Cholakis; sister, Linda Lenperes; and grandchildren, Michael, Peter and Christopher Gentile, Nicholas Cholakis and Elizabeth Cholakis.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Denis S. O'Connor Funeral Home, with visitation to be held on Friday, January 12, 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Three Hierarchs Greek Church, 1724 Avenue P in Brooklyn, on Saturday, January 13 at 9 a.m. Interment will be held at Cypress Hills Cemetery in Brooklyn.

Ann J. Clancy

Nurse's Aide

Ann J. Clancy, a Rockaway resident for 50 years coming from Manhattan, died January 9.

Clancy, a nurse's aide, was born in New York. She was a parishioner at St. Camillus Church.

Clancy was preceded in death by her husband, Patrick; brothers, Frank and Jack Murray; and sister, Mae Smith.

She is survived by her sons, Gerald (Patrick) and Richard; brother, Joseph Murray; grandchildren, Dawn Marie Fustanio, Jennifer Clancy and Christine Clancy; and one great-grandchild.

Funeral arrangements and visitation were entrusted to the Denis S. O'Connor Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Camillus Church. Interment was at Calvary Cemetery in Woodside, New York.

Georgiana Gloria Manno

Secretary/Bookkeeper

Georgiana Gloria Manno, a former Rockaway resident for 33 years who moved to Long Beach, died December 22. She was 88.

Manno, a secretary and bookkeeper, was born in Jersey City, New Jersey on May 30, 1918. She was a member of St. Mary's Parish Council, choir and folk group, and was a lay minister and CCD teacher. Manno was also involved with the PS 104 PTA and enjoyed music, painting and literature.

She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Ted; children, Barbara, Tony and Tara; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Interment was held at Greenwood Cemetery in Brooklyn. All other arrangements were kept private.

Marcel McGregor

Cabinet Maker

Marcel McGregor, a longtime Rockaway resident, died December 28. He was 36.

McGregor, a cabinet maker, was born on March 3, 1970 in Brooklyn.

He is survived by his wife, Nicole McGregor; sons, Laysean and Marquis McGregor; mother, Norma McGregor; brothers, Wayne, Sean and Dean McGregor; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jeremiah C. Gaffney's Funeral Home. Visitation and a service were held at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Rosedale, New York. Interment was at Maple Grove Cemetery in Kew Gardens, New York.

Rudolph Wellington Powell

Social Worker

Rudolph Wellington Powell, a longtime Rockaway resident, died December 22.

Powell, a social worker, was born on January 25, 1917 in Nassau, the Bahamas. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

Powell was a member of the Nu Psi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity; a life member of the NAACP and Veterans of Foreign Wars; a Human Resource board member of St. Albans Congregational Church, as well as a member of the church's Enriching Our Elders Senior Group; member of the Alpha Lodge #116 F.A.M. of New Jersey; a life senior member of Alpha Chapter #62 Royal Arch Mason of Valley of Northern New Jersey; and a member of the Greater New York Chapter of the Virginia State University Alumni Association.

He was preceded in death by David S. Powell and Alberta Powell Draggan; and his brother, Kenneth Senior Powell.

Powell is survived by his sisters, Elaine Barnwell of Margate, Florida and Oona Wells of Decatur, Georgia; sisters-in-law, Mattie Bell, Jacqueline B. Moorhead and June M. Brown of Croton-on-Hudson, New York; nieces, Sharon Barnwell-Miller, Rena Wells, Robin Horton, Dianne Powell, Laurena Powell and Patti Moorhead; nephews, Dr. Kenneth Powell II, Dr. Marty M. Powell, James J. Moorhead, John W. Barnwell Jr., Dr. Frederick Miller and Floyd Horton; grandnieces and grandnephews, Kimberly Powell-Butler, Kelly Powell, Kenneth S. Powell III, Anthony Butler, Harrison Miller, Sterling Miler, Deidre Wells, Damian Horton, Kelvin Horton, Oona Moorhead, Avery Butler and Marty Powell Jr.; godson, Theodore Hollman; and many relatives, friends and fraternity brethren.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jeremiah C. Gaffney's Funeral Home. A service was held at St. Martin's Episcopal Church in New York. Interment was at Long Island National Cemetery in Farmingdale, New York.

Grace G. Someck

Homemaker

Grace G. Someck, a 70-year resident and a year-round Rockaway resident for 20 years, coming from Brooklyn, died January 5.

Someck, a homemaker, was born in Brooklyn.

She is survived by Michael Someck; grandchildren, Jacqui and Jonathan; and great-grandchildren, Megan and Sarah.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Denis S. O'Connor Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Edmund's Church in Breezy Point. Interment was at Holy Cross Cemetery in Brooklyn.
