The junior, who graduated from Beach Channel High School, has provided veteran experience for a young Cyclones team that lost key scorers Will Blaylock and Curtis Stinson from last year's squad.
Michael Hines averaged 16 points as a senior for the Beach Channel Dolphins in the 2004-05 senior season with the Beach Channel varsity basketball team. Now a sophomore, Hines has continued to make the most of his opportunities after landing upstate at Sullivan County Community College in the Catskill Mountains
Joining up with one of the top junior college basketball teams in the country, Sullivan's current 12-0 record has been impressive enough to lock up the #1 spot in the NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association) Men's Division III basketball poll.
Hines has started in all 12 contests, while averaging eight points and five rebounds. Former Beach Channel teammate Dwayne Messam is coming off the bench in his freshman campaign for Monroe Community College (13-2) in Rochester, N.Y.

Nate Jean Baptiste is a senior guard at Concordia College…. Kenneth Chapman , a Far Rockaway native who played high school basketball at Robert F. Wagner was involved in the longest game in NCAA Division III history. A freshman at SUNY Maritime College, Chapman hit one of two free throws in the fifth overtime on November 28, 2006 to clinch a 126-124 victory over Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts.
Marissa Webber-Bey is a junior forward at SUNY-Maritime…. Maureen Carey , who last season played for Stella Maris' Brooklyn/Queens Division II championship team, is currently plying her trade at Mount St. Vincent College in Riverdale.
Molly Tubridy , a Broad Channel resident, is a 5 foot 11 sophomore forward at Dowling College… Tim Pounds has started 13 out of the first 14 games for Colgate University, who has a sub .500 record at 6-9.
Morrisville State College in upstate New York has two Rockaway residents. Patrice McKenzie is a freshman forward after graduating from Far Rockaway High School and Terrell Armstead , a college sophomore, starred at Martin Van Buren High school.
