The Inner Voice

Commentary by Marilyn Gelfand

I am so amazed at how many people I know could not allow themselves to enjoy the warm balmy weather we are experiencing this winter so far. I keep hearing about political and environmental theories, scare tactics over our future and really not many just saying... Thank you to God or the Universe for some good weather. Even without the thanks, just pure enjoyment over the beautiful days on our beach.

All we have are our present moments. The people I know didn't do anything different than I did. They didn't go home and use their energy any less or write to celebrities advising them to stop using

private jets, etc. They just sat around and worried about the future and made sure others knew their concerns. Does self-righteousness change any weather patterns or make people feel better than just enjoying themselves?

That's up to each individual.

The question to ask oneself then is what do my thoughts and actions accomplish for me?

Am I living my life on my own terms?

Do I just accept what I am told or do I really believe in this way of thinking?

Am I making the most out of each day?

From time to time, it is good to remind ourselves that we are alive only for a finite period of time. I want to be able to control myself when I can to ensure that I am living my life and then picking and choosing from my society what works for me.

One can be true to oneself and also be a member of society as long as we do not impose our view on others.

For myself, I plan to enjoy as many moments as possible. I plan events and visits with people who make me happy.

I also take what life dishes out, but I am so grateful for every beautiful moment experienced.
