By Howard Schwach

A gas station attendant at the Getty Gas Station in Rockaway Beach was robbed on December 27 by a man who pointed a silver handgun at him and demanded his money, police say.

Haniff Mohamed was pumping gas at the station, located at 100-17 Beach Channel Drive at about 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 27, when a man described as Hispanic approached him from behind and asked him for directions to "the Freelan." When he turned around to talk to the man, Mohamed told police that he faced a silver handgun. "Give me the money," the man demanded of the attendant.

Police say that Mohamed give the man about $25 and he fled on foot westbound on Beach Channel Drive.

Patrol units canvassed the area for the man, but did not find any suspects.

Police says that there were no security camera either inside or outside the gas station that would allow them to observe the activity.

Detectives from the 100 Precinct Squad are investigating.
