Beach 125 St.Construction Crew Cuts Phone Lines
300 Customers Silenced In Belle Harbor
Construction workers building homes where the Washington Hotel once stood on Beach 125 Street and Rockaway Beach Boulevard accidentally severed some phone cables on July 31, deleting phone service to approximately 300 homes. A spokesperson for the construction group, Nicholas Industries, told reporters that Verizon should have notified the group that a telephone cable was buried at the site. A Verizon technician on site, however, said that it is up to the construction people to contact all the local utilities before digging to find out what is in the ground at the site. Pictured, Verizon trucks line up on Rockaway Beach Boulevard as workers repair the cable.
