No Swimming At Riis Park Beaches

Swimming at Jacob Riis Park was temporarily prohibited Thursday, August 10, due to high levels of bacteria in the water, officials at Gateway National Recreation Area announced. The beach will remain open to visitors but the water will be off-limits until tests show the levels are back within standards set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The cause of the spike was not known at press time and it was unclear how long it would take for the ban to be lifted. Call (718) 318-4300 for updates.
