Anthony Contino, an 84-year-old artist and resident of Horizon Care Center in Arverne, presented Senator Malcolm A. Smith with his painting, "Purple View," at a July 18 ceremony.

Senator Smith plans to display the artwork in his local office for one year before it will move to an exhibit at the Albany Museum of History and Art. Contino's painting was a winner of the New York State Health Facilities Association's first ever "Art from the Heart" program, which showcased the talents and creativity of nursing home residents.

"Purple View" was featured in a 2006 Art from the Heart calendar.
