Yaeger Tells Scholars About Hurricanes

Rockaway Museum lecturer and Wave science columnist, Stephen Yaeger, gave a presentation to classes of the Scholars Academy, Q323 on Monday, May 22.

He was invited to the school by Parent Coordinator Janet Brady. The presentation on hurricanes took place in the school's (MS180) auditorium to an enthusiastic audience of students. After he was introduced by Assistant Principal Willis Perry, Yaeger, using an overhead projector and transparencies, explained the anatomy of a hurricane, how it forms, where its energy comes from and how a hurricane would affect the Rockaways. Although the time allotted was short, the students received an in-depth explanation of these storms.

Principal Brian O'Connell thanked Yaeger for his time and effort and invited him to take a look at some of the classes in session. When asked by the Wave what he thought about the Academy he said, "Although I saw very little in the time I had, I was impressed and I wouldn't mind giving another lecture to the students."
