Catholic School Closure Met With Opposition

News of the Brooklyn Diocese's recent decision to permanently close St. Virgilius Parish School in Broad Channel next month was met with opposition from many residents of the island community. Top: Members of the school's Parents Association, Pete Mahon, Anne Marie Sullivan and Kim O'Reilly led a protest on the steps of the church on Monday morning, May 15. At right and below: The owner of this Honda minivan, which was parked on Cross Bay Boulevard in Broad Channel this week, is using his/her auto as a billboard to criticize the Brooklyn Diocese.
