Changing Of The Guard With New CO At 101 Precinct
By Miriam Rosenberg Contributing Editor

Captain Brian McMahon, the new commanding officer, addresses community members during his first 101 Precinct Community Council meeting. "I'm looking forward to working with everyone," he said.
Deputy Inspector Walter Salowski passed the baton last Wednesday to his successor as commanding officer of the 101 Precinct, Captain Brian McMahon, when introduced the "C.O." at the precinct's community council meeting.

"He's been in Queens for quite a while. Experience? Absolutely," Salowski said. "He worked with the 100th. He worked in South Jamaica. He is up to the task. He is going to step in, and you're not going to miss a beat.

"He's going to pick up and take this place to the next level," an enthusiastic Salowski predicted.

McMahon then took center stage and addressed members of the community.

"I'm very happy to be here. Walter [Salowski] has been a good friend. He has told me a lot about the community - a lot of good things, and it is a real pleasure to be coming in following in his shoes. "I look forward to working with everyone. There may not be any meetings [for June, July and August], but the Community Affairs guys will always be around and the door is always open."

Deputy Inspector Walter Salowski tells members of the community, "Overall we made some inroads. Not only in crime... but also in the relationship with the community."
Salowski, whose last day at the precinct was on May 4, came to say goodbye to community members.

"I leave you with mixed emotions," said Salowski. "I wasn't ready to go. I didn't think it was time to go. But when the police commissioner and the chief of department says it's time, I guess it's time."

The May 17 meeting was the last one until September, when the council will return from its summer hiatus.
