All 35 members garnered one or more medals in the field of 500+ athletes representing the Northeast. The World Champions team come home with over seventy medals in KATA (forms), Kumite (sparring) and Kobudo (weapons). Their high achievement is a direct result of the students' dedication and the rigorous training they receive from Sensei Mark Gumpel and Sensei Samer Hussein. One just has to watch as the students go through their paces under Sensei Samer to understand their dedication. He trains them hard and when they think there is nothing left, Gumnpel makes them find that extra spark of energy from deep inside. That's why these kids are all winners says Sensei Bruce Hodes. "They never give up! It's a pleasure to see them in action on the tatami (dojo floor). Whether they are giving or receiving punches or kicks they do it with respect, discipline and control. There are no attitudes here. The doho is located at 112-20 Beach Channel Drive. We've been training Karateka in Rockaway for 35 years.
