Scrumdown News: Fisheads Blow Out Americans

The Fisheads placed second in The 2005 Lions Spring Rugby Tournament.
Rockaway Rugby was back on track last Saturday with an impressive 45-13 victory over the Newburg Americans. After a slow start, the Fisheads began a methodical style of controlling possession and forcing the opponent to commit errors. Despite missing front row anchor Tim Kelly, the Fisheads had their way in set pieces due to the presence of Mike the Russian, Phil Tufano and Omar the tent builder.

The backfield led by the "wee General Jim "Kermit" Egan used the pop kick to their advantage as the Newburgh backs were quick to come up in defense. "Shades of Jim Mullen", one onlooker was heard to mutter, as the boot was used to move the ball down the field. After some strong midfield runs by Johnny McMorrow and his partner Kyle, Flyhalf Kevin Wrafter made a fantastic play. He grub kicked and fell on the ball in the end zone for a 5-0 lead. More first half tries were soon to follow as McMorrow, McCormack and Egan touched down for a 22-3 halftime lead. The 2nd half saw a lot more of the same as a couple of Mike's Hofstra boys made the presence felt.

With about a minute remaining the Fishead defense finally let up a try. The final was 45-13. The Fisheads are home again this weekend with a match against the NYPD at Fort Tilden. Gametime is 1 p.m.

Rugger Pluggers:

Johnny Oak was spotted hiding by the little league field during the match and was not answering his cell phone. The Lunny brothers watched the match but were unable to play without parental supervision.

Duke Foti is rumored to be coming out of retirement. Claiming to be reinvigorated by the team's recent success, the Duke has asked to be immediately placed on the selection committee.
