'Crisis In Darfur' Discussion

Sybil Kessler, Director of United Nations Affairs for B'nai B'rith International will speak at West End Temple, 147-02 Newport Avenue, on Friday, April 21 at 8:15 p.m. to discuss the crisis in Darfur. Kessler currently represents B'nai B'rith International on numerous committees of non-governmental organizations at the United Nations.

Before coming to BBI, Kessler was with the American Jewish Committee's Jacob Blaustein Institute for the Advancement of Human Rights. In 2001, she represented Hadassah at the UN World Conference Against Racism in Durban, South Africa.

West End Temple is a member of the Union for Reform Judaism, whose Board of Trustees' Executive Committee passed a resolution in September, noting, "A people intimately acquainted with the horrors of ethnic cleansing and genocide, we are obligated to speak out and take action when other peoples are similarly threatened with annihilation. As Jews, we cannot remain silent."

West End Temple is also sponsoring a bus to a rally in Washington, D.C. on Sunday, April 30. For additional information, call Rabbi Slome at the Temple at (718) 634-0301.
