Skateboarders,Addabbo Open Skate Park Early
 | | Local skateboarders, City Councilman Joseph Addabbo Jr. and Department of Parks and Recreation staff reopened the Rockaway Skate Park last weekend - about a month ahead of schedule. The early opening is a victory for a determined group of local skateboarders who collected about 500 signatures on a petition and, with Addabbo's help, convinced Parks Commissioner Adrian Benepe to let 'em start skating ASAP. The park will be open Saturdays and Sundays, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., weather permitting. Additional hours will be posted after Memorial Day. Park users must sign a waiver (kids need one signed by a parent or guardian) and must wear protective gear. Photo: Councilman Addabbo holds the petition with Angel Andino. They're joined by Curtis Cooper (second from right) and Ivan Vamba (right), who also collected signatures to expand park |
