Cops Corral Stabbing Suspects
Police say the man was standing outside McDonald's on the corner of Mott Avenue and Beach Channel Drive at about 2 p.m. when he was viciously attacked. Witnesses began dialing 911 and told police that two men fled the scene in a small black car with its passenger-side windows broken out. Three bystanders drove the wounded victim, identified as George Jordan, to St. Johns Episcopal Hospital. At the same time, the description of the car that bolted from the scene was broadcast to police throughout Rockaway. Officers began an intense search for the vehicle and also responded to both area hospitals. They found Jordan, whose address is unknown, at St. John's Episcopal Hospital.
Men fitting the description of those who fled the scene of the stabbing were quickly taken into custody and searched. One of the suspects turned and reached for something in his belt and had to be subdued by police officers. He was later identified by law enforcement sources as Lee Woods, 28, of 229 Beach 29 Street. Police sources said he was in possession of the knife used in the attack. A spokesperson for Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown said that Woods would face charges of attempted murder, assault, resisting arrest and criminal possession of a weapon. He had yet to be arraigned in Queens Criminal Court at press time. Another man arrested with Woods was not charged in the stabbing, according to Brown's spokesperson.
