HRA Reopens Rockaway Help Center

The city's Human Resources Administration center (HRA) has re-opened its Rockaway Help Center at 219 Beach 59 Street in Arverne, after a $1.4 million renovation that began in October.

During the renovation the needs of the center's clients were being handled by several centers throughout the borough of Queens.

"I am pleased to announce that much-needed renovation to the HRA has been completed. The building was in serious need of updating and repair, and is now in better condition to service its clients," said State Senator Malcolm Smith.

Smith further stated his appreciation to Mayor Bloomberg for keeping his commitment to upgrading the services.

The Queens lawmaker noted that the renovations included updated furniture as well as new computer system; information kiosks, electronic message boards, and staffed daycare where clients can leave their children. Approval time for new clients will be hours as opposed to days or weeks under the old system.

"I want to thank HRA Commissioner Verna Eggleston and Mayor Bloomberg for keeping their promise to assure a quick and efficient renovation of the facility, and a job well done. They have created an environment that will better serve clients. Several other centers took on the task of accommodating extra clients who were in need of employment and Medicaid services. The entire community, not only in Queens but also in other parts of the City, has worked hard to provide the best level of service possible. Now that the renovations are completed I have no doubt that HRA will continue to provide quality service to their clients," Smith concluded.
