Anglero Notches 1,000 Boards In SM Lady Flippers Win
SM’s gym was packed as the fans settled in for a first place fight. The first quarter proved to be much like the first encounter. It was a bit slower paced, with both teams missing some easy shots. The game was once again very physical as both teams were in the bonus just 4 minutes into the game. This quarter ended with FH up 11-8. Then SM settled down on the fouling situation and started to run. In this quarter, SM outscored FH 25-10. The turning point came defensively, as Jen Greene notched 10 steals/tips in the one period. Her teammates followed as the role continued after halftime. In the third, the Home White once again outscored the visitors 22-11 and entered the fourth up 57-31. The final score was 70-45. SM was led by Jen Anglero’s 16 points and Jen Greene’s 10. Erin Casey, Cat Rudden and Alexa Rosella each added 9. Stella continued its selfless play as the team totaled 24 assists. A personal milestone was achieved by Senior Jen Anglero as she pulled down her 1,000th rebound. The game was stopped midway through the first quarter as SM’s Principal Miss Geri Martinez congratulated Jen on her accomplishment. Next up was St. Agnes. A very young SA team played well in the first half but ran out of steam. The half time score was just 24-18. SM playing without Jen Anglero and Maureen Carey finally started to rebound and therefore run. The final score was 56-36. High scorers were Alexa Rosella (17), Erin Casey (14) and Caroline Weeks (11). SM’s 13th league victory was over St. Edmund at SE. All eleven Stella players scored in a very sloppy win. Never quite on track defensively, always it seemed a step late and very streaky offensively. The final score of 73-53 is a little misleading as with just 4 minutes remaining SM was up only 9. SM was led by Jen Anglero (16), Erin Casey and Alexa Rosella (13) and Cat Rudden (11). The best shot of the day was by SM’s Caroline Weeks. Diesel’s put back seemed to dangle up on the outer half of the rim for an eternity and then changed its mind and dropped back in. The phrase “touched by an angel” was overheard. SM completes its regular season schedule this coming Wednesday at home versus St. Saviour. It will mark the Senior’s Final Home Game. The ceremony begins at 3:40 followed by the tip off at 4:45. All are invited! Flipper Footnotes: Thanks to FH coaches and players for the stoppage in play. EC/Cap: I think you have saved the best for last. MC good to have you back. The injured reserve list is now officially closed. AC and I will miss you on the bench. JV: great win at SE. CR: you know when you know your game has improved? When you score 11, have 4 steals, 5 assists and you’re not happy with your game! You have all raised the bar! Well done!
