Christine Louise Francis Hospital Attendant
Christine Louise Francis, a longtime Rockaway resident, died January 28. She was 96. Francis, a hospital attendant, was born on May 20, 1909 in St. Ann, Jamaica, West Indies. She is survived by her daughters, Ruby and Hermine; three sons, Lambert, Winston, and Lynden; grandchildren, Maurice, Delroy, Michael, Sophia, Shellice, Laton, Dave, Paul, Yvette, Vanessa, Richard, Monique, and Leroy; and 14 great-grandchildren. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jeremiah C. Gaffney’s Friendship Chapel, where a service will be held Friday, February 10, at 7 p.m. Interment will be held at All Saints Cemetery in Great Neck, New York. Lorenzo R. Graham
Machinist

Lorenzo R. Graham, a longtime Rockaway resident, died January 30. He was 59.

Graham, a machinist, was born on January 27, 1947 in Brooklyn.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Sr.; brother, Charles Jr.; sister, Theresa; niece, Angie; and stepfather, Sonny Branch.

Graham is survived by his mother, Doris L. Branch; brother, George Graham; children, Lorenzo (Pamela), Darcy (Lorraine), and Onika (Dallas Johnson); grandchildren, Ayana, Zaria, Antonnette, Virginia, Clarise, Tony, Asia, Phalon, Janaya, Davante, Darcy Jr., Briana, Alia and Anthony; mother of his children, Jackie; stepdaughter, Gail Whitley; step-granddaughter, Gena Marcelli; nephew, Steven James; and godson, Thomas.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jeremiah C. Gaffney’s Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 11, 3 p.m., at Gaffney’s Friendship Chapel. Disposition was held at Oxford Hills Crematory in Chester, New York.

Ruby Gregory

Seamstress

Ruby Gregory, a Rockaway resident, died December 29, 2005. She was 93.

Gregory, a seamstress who worked for many years in the garment district, was born on March 12, 1912 in South Hill, Virginia.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sophie Cruchfield and Sam James Gregory; grandson, Harvey Thornes Sr.; sisters, Eva Gregory Palmer and Vistie Gregory Bracey; and brothers, Sam James Gregory, Albert Gregory and Bunnion Gregory.

Gregory is survived by her daughter, Louise Thornes; granddaughter, Sarah Robinson; great-granddaughters, Kim Davis and Cherrietta Hernandez; great-grandson, Harvey Thornes, Jr.; great great-grandsons, Devon Rhoden, Rashon, Matthew and David; great great-granddaughters, Cherika Thornes, Starlett, and Shaquira Thornes-Daily; sister-in-law, Lucy Gregory of South Hill, Virginia; nieces and nephews, Sophie Bracey McMillan, Pinkie, Edith Mushaw, and Ruby Ann Gregory; special friend; Mike; special friend, Ruth Adams of New York City; and many family and friends.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Lawrence Funeral Chapel. Interment was at All Saints Cemetery in Great Neck, New York.

Charles Martin

Superintendent

Charles Martin, a longtime Rockaway resident, died January 21.

Martin, a superintendent, was born in Alexander City, Alabama.

He is survived by his daughter, Vanessa Bailey.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Lawrence Funeral Chapel. Interment was at All Saints Cemetery in Great Neck, New York.

Buena Moss

Homemaker

Buena Moss, a Rockaway resident for 30 years, died February 6.

Moss, a homemaker, was born in Puerto Rico. She was a member of St. Gertrude’s Church in Arverne.

Moss was preceded in death by her husband, Noah.

She is survived by her daughters, Peggy DeLeon and Buena; sons, Noah and Clark; 14 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Denis S. O’Connor Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass was held at St. Gertrude’s in Arverne. Interment was at Cypress Hills Cemetery in Brooklyn.

William James Murray

Lifelong Area Resident

William James Murray, a lifelong area resident who lived in Broad Channel and Rockaway, died February 4. He was 66.

Murray, who was born in Brooklyn, served in the United States Air Force. He was retired from his work for the New York City Department of Sanitation.

Murray was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Helen; brothers, Edward, John and Richard; and sisters, Eileen Glade, Mary Goyette and Loretta Murray.

He is survived by his wife, Laura Lee Murray; sons, Joseph and William; daughter-in-law, Maggie; grandchildren, Aidan, Margaret, Matthew and Samantha; and sisters, Barbara O’Gara, Dorothy Fox, Helen Keane and Kathy Rogers.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Hillebrand Funeral Home. A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Virgilius. Interment was at Calverton National Cemetery.

Mary M. Rooney

Homemaker

Mary M. Rooney, a Rockaway resident for 23 years, died February 6.

Rooney, a homemaker, was born in San Francisco, California. She was a member of St. Camillus Church.

Rooney was preceded in death by her husband, William J.; and son, William J.

She is survived by her son, Timothy; daughter, Mary Ann Rooney; brother, John O’Brien; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Denis S. O’Connor Funeral Home. A funeral Mass was held at St. Camillus Church. Interment was held at St. John’s Cemetery in Middle Village.
