Stella Maris Lady Flippers Keep Piling Up Victories

Stella Maris improved its Division record to 10-0 with a 59-28 victory over St. John’s Prep. All eleven Lady Flippers contributed. SM was led by Jen Anglero (19) and Alexa Rosella (9). Three bright spots in the game were the play of seniors MaryGrace Brady and Jennifer Greene plus sophomore Kathleen Haggerty. Brady (hampered by ankle injuries) has been a consistent scorer for SM since freshman year.

Always a three-point threat, she has not been able to get on track this year. Even though she hit just one trey tonight the shot on the whole was much better. This lone hit just may end up being what the team ordered. Jen Greene, the team’s back up shooting guard and defensive specialist has also struggled this season. But tonight, she showed some of the form that made her a solid contributor last year.

Kathleen Haggerty, the team’s lone soph, started the season off very strong but then seemed to have hit a tiny road bump aka “sophomore-itis”: a bit inconsistent but never for lack of hustle.

Haggerty’s hustle always seems to put her in a position to do some good. But she has also suffered through a shooting drought. That’s why her three-pointer may also be a glimpse of good things to come.

SM hosts Fontbonne Hall this Friday and then St. Agnes on Monday. Next Wednesday the team travels to St. Edmund’s to take on the Eagles. Then on Wednesday Feb. 15th Stella hosts St. Saviour in the final home game of the season. Prior to the game the team will honor their seniors in a school ceremony prior to the game.

Flipper Footnotes: Congrats to Jen Anglero on her 1000th rebound. Hard work pays off!

A special thanks to Mrs C for her artistic genius once again! EC our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Players pay up for foul shooting fines we have a party to throw! Seniors to paraphrase: Do not go gently into that sweet night! Rage, Rage, Rage!
