Vinson Golden Win

Darius Vinson became the first amateur fighter from the Irish Ropes Boxing Club, located on Beach 73 Street in Arverne, to win at the 2006 Golden Gloves. Vinson recorded a win by decision at the Freeport Recreational Center in Long Island last Tuesday. Though Vinson was successful and will advance to the next round, stablemates Cordell Vasquez and Harry Knee lost the next night at the South Jamaica PAL. Next week, heavyweight Gary Styles will enter the ring on February 8 at Van Dyke Community Center. Light heavyweight Sean Moynihan steps in on Feb. 7 and Rasheem Parish (his last name is not Flake as reported in the Wave) will fight on Feb. 9.
