Recruitment Effort For Corrections Officers

Assemblywoman Audrey I. Pheffer was contacted by the New York State Department of Correctional Services (DCS) to assist with the department’s Correction Officer recruitment effort.

Under the auspices of the New York State Department of Civil Service, a new examination will be held on April 8, 2006. The filing deadline for the exam is February 20, with a filing fee accompanying the application.

Assemblywoman Pheffer has applications and fact sheets describing the salary and benefits to employees serving in Correction Officer positions. The trainee starting salary begins at $28,444 per year, which increases after six months to $30,043.

After successful completion of the one-year Correction Officer traineeship, salary increases to $34,742 per year.

At the time of appointment, candidates must be at least 21 years old, be in good physical and mental health, possess a high school diploma or GED and be a U.S. citizen. Convicted felons are automatically disqualified.
