PHC Cuts The Ribbon On New Mammography Suite

Rhoda Shapiro cuts the ribbon. Rhoda Shapiro cuts the ribbon. Women’s health care took a leap forward as the Peninsula Hospital Center, affiliate of North Shore- Long Island Jewish Health System unveiled its new, state-of-the-art mammography suite.

Civic, community and medical leaders gathered for the ribbon cutting, which ushers in a new level of care for local women in the detection and prevention of breast cancer.

The suite offers cutting- edge technology set in a most unique and welcoming atmosphere, with the setting carefully designed to stress a non-clinical feeling, putting patients at greater ease.

Dr. Stanley Sprecher, co-director of Peninsula’s Department of Imaging Service, explained that the actual mammography units are set in a “living room” type environment which relaxes apprehensive patients and “makes this essential screening procedure” far less stressful.

Dr. Richard Steinberg, co-director of the unit, continued that the design of the suite “stresses feminine sensibilities, from the soothing pastel colorings to the fresh flowers and artworks in both the dressing and actual exam rooms.
