The cadets of Knowledge and Power Preparatory Academy VI (KAPPA VI) in Far Rockaway were recently given the opportunity to participate in a citizenship project to celebrate the 100th year of the motorized taxi.

Garden in Transit, sponsored by Portraits of Hope, came to the school and discussed the purpose of the program and how the cadets can become a moving force in social change. Each cadet painted a flower in bloom which will be placed on taxi cabs in New York City from September 2007 to December 2007.

Portraits of Hope, a civic organization that promotes the connection between the arts and social consciousness, also gave each cadet their own model taxi to design.

This activity was an opportunity for the cadets to see the impact of their contribution in celebration of the centennial of the taxi.
