Josephine Theresa Faillace Secretary

Josephine Theresa Faillace, a resident of the Resort Nursing Home in Rockaway for over 20 years, died December 6. She was 82.

Faillace, a secretary, was born on September 29, 1924 in Brooklyn. She was hospitalized for over 60 years after an operation for the removal of a brain tumor in 1945. Faillace was a parishioner at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Woodhaven.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Raphael and Theresa Faillace; aunt, Carmela Faillace; and sister-in-law, Concetta Faillace.

Faillace is survived by her brothers, Frank, Leonard and Ralph; sister-in-law, Margaret; niece, Yvonne; nephew, Ralph; and many grand-nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Walsh and La Bella Funeral Home in Woodhaven. A Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Woodhaven. Interment was at St. John’s Cemetery in Middle Village.

George H. Fox

Retired Truck Driver

George H. Fox, who had resided in Broad Channel for more than 40 years, died December 6 in Spring Hill, Florida. He was 75.

Fox served in the Korean War and was a member of the VFW Post 10209 in Spring Hill, Fla. He was retired from his career as a truck driver and residing in Spring Hill, Fla. at the time of his death.

Fox is survived by his wife, Margaret; sons, George and Joseph; daughters, Margaret and Diane; 13 grandchildren, two great-granddaughters; and a sister, Evelyn Gill of Long Island.

A service was held December 11 at the VFW in Spring Hill, Fla. Fox was cremated.

Robert T. Gough Jr.

U.S. Postal Police Officer

Robert T. Gough Jr., a Rockaway resident for 30 years coming from the Bronx, died December 9.

Gough, a U.S. Postal Police Officer, was born in Manhattan. He also served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1976 to 1981.

Gough is survived by his sister, Patricia O’Neill (Arthur); and nephews, Brian and Keith O’Neill.

Funeral arrangements and visitation were entrusted to the Denis S. O’Connor Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Camillus Church. Interment was at Calverton National Cemetery in Calverton, New York.

Willie E. Johnson

Limousine Driver

Willie E. Johnson, a Rockaway resident for over 40 years, died December 3. He was 93.

Johnson, a limousine driver, was born on September 8, 1913 in Green Bay, Virginia.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Lillie Johnson; brothers, Samuel, Pernell and Clivard; and sisters, Alice and Judie.

Johnson is survived by his children, Shirley Johnson of Inwood, Zandra Howard of Hempstead, New York and Ernest Johnson (Teresa) of Washington, D.C.; brother, Evary Johnson (Bertha) of Baltimore, Maryland; sisters, Martha Bullard and Florence Moore of the Bronx, and Grace Hepbown and Josephine Eanes of Green Bay, Virginia; sisters-in-law, Edith Wimms of Inwood and Irene McCoy (James) of Buffalo, New York; brothers-in-law, Ernest Taylor (Hazel) of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Rux Taylor (Irene) of Green Bay, Virginia; grandchildren, Tracey, Chanel, Lamont, Jerry, Adam, Jamal, Kyneil, Jermaine, Rodney, Nia, Jana and Erinn; nine great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral arrangements and visitation were entrusted to Jeremiah C. Gaffney’s Funeral Home, with a service at Gaffney’s Friendship Chapel. Interment was at Amityville Cemetery in Amityville, New York.

Kay Kinane


Kay Kinane, a Rockaway resident for 40 years coming from Brooklyn, died December 14.

Kinane, a secretary, was born in Brooklyn. She was the present of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, a member of the St. Thomas More-St. Edmund Golden Age, and an active member of the community.

Kinane was preceded in death by her husband, William.

She is survived by her son, William Kinane (Maura); daughter, Patricia Turek; and grandchildren, Jason Turek, Katie Rose Kinane and Bridget Ann Kinane.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Denis S. O’Connor Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 15, from 2-5 p.m. and 7-10 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, December 16 at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas More Church in Rockaway Point. Interment will be held at Calvary Cemetery in Woodside.

Ida Bell Burgins O’Blige


Ida Bell Burgins O’Blige, a Rockaway resident for 40 years, died December 4. She was 81.

O’Blige, a homemaker, was born on March 15, 1925 in Eutaw, Alabama.

She was preceded in death by her grandchild, Shelia Middleton.

O’Blige is survived by her husband, Stanley O’Blige; daughter, Christina Henry (Dalmar); stepsons, Stanley O’Blige Jr. and Tybee O’Blige (Connie); grandchildren, Phyllis Acoy, Alphonso Acoy Jr., Stanley Acoy and Stephanie Acoy Williams; 25 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; cousins, Author Ward and family, Luther Tutt and family, Brenda Moore and family, and Coleman and family; goddaughters, Pat Weeks and Kim Bowley; close and special friends, Minnie Park, Doris Wilkerson, James Wilkerson, Miles, Elizabeth Gregory, Glads Pugh, Sister Olean Eddings (Nana), Yvonne John, Abella and family, Cherly Williams, Kandi Papafio, Augusta Duncan, Minnie Afari, Ms. Frances, Sister Wallis, Sister Bassoon, Aubrey Powell and family, Berlin Brevard, Monique Robinson and G. Pascoe; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jeremiah C. Gaffney’s Funeral Home. Visitation and a service were held at Community Church of God in Christ in Arverne. Interment was at Pinelawn Cemetery in Farmingdale, New York.
