Seek HARP Help
The Historic Aircraft Restoration Project, better known as HARP is interested in adding new members to the volunteer effort that works to restore vintage military aircraft, Brian Sweeney, a spokesperson for Gateway National Recreation Area says.
Volunteers have worked for the past decade at Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn, a former Naval Air Station, to restore a variety of aircraft, including a C-47, a P2V Neptune, a PBY Catalina, an A-4 Skyhawk carrier-based attack plane and others.
The bring a variety of skills to the project. Some were aircraft mechanics in either the military or with a civilian airline. Others are skilled machinists, mechanics, metal workers and carpenters.
