Jay Black, April 14
On October 10, 2006 Trustee, Robert L. Pryor entered into an agreement which gives use of the name JAY BLACK back to Black for all public appearances.
During these proceedings the name Jay and the Americans was sold to former American, Sandy Yaguda.
Yaguda was a former back up musician with the Americans until 1973. Originally, Jay Trainer recorded “She Cried” with the Americans. He left the group thereafter and was replaced by David Blatt a/k/a Jay Black who recorded all the hits including “Cara Mia”, “Only In America”, “This Magic Moment”, “Come A Little Bit Closer” among many others. Black will continue to appear with his band of over 33 years singing all the hits he made famous. Attorney for defendant David Blatt a/k/a Jay Black states, “The Trustee grants and does not object to the specific use of the name “Jay Black” in any promotion or advertising for future performances and sales of merchandise.”. When asked for his comment,
Jay Black stated, “I am pleased that this unpleasant business is behind me. I just want to do what I’ve done for 45 years – provide the authentic sound of my hit songs to all the fans that have attended Jay Black shows over all these many years”. Attendance at Jay and the Americans performances does not include Jay Black. To hear the original voice in these songs you must attend performances by Jay Black.
