PHC Addresses Asthmatic Children
Peter Guiney, D.O., Director of Peninsula Hospital Center’s Family Practice Residence Program, gave an informative presentation to the Queens Comprehensive Perinatal Council, a group of day care center professionals who cover the Rockaways and South Jamaica. The group’s focus is on the many challenges of caring for asthmatic children – a challenge facing many in a home, day care and/or school setting across the County of Queens. Dr. Guiney spoke about a program in existence at Peninsula Hospital Center, an affiliate of North Shore/LIJ Health System, called Osteopathic Manipulation Therapy (OMT). OMT, a non-invasive manipulation therapy, when combined with the requisite medications, has made a positive difference in the quality of the lives of asthmatic patients for the past several years in the Hospital Center’s Family Health Center. OMT as part of the treatment plan for asthmatics was also the subject of a recent published study done at Peninsula Hospital Center.
