St. Francis de Sales Packs Gymnasium For Basketball

Another full slate of games filled the gym at St. Francis this Saturday and Sunday. The kitchen opened and with the Soccer season complete, all could focus their attention on basketball. The two girls Pee Wee teams continue to roll.

The B's (7-0) hosted St. Pancras and had no problem from Kayla Kilgallen's basket off the opening tip. Kim Sluyk once again directed the attack ably. Emma Knox outside, and Serena Yanello inside formed a formidable scoring tandem. Cassie Moriarty led the effort on the boards.

The Novices made it 5-0 with a win over St. Rose as Meaghan King, Caitlin Byrne, and Casey McDade led the offense and Therese Boyle, Meghan Atwood, and Daisy Trusttum keyed the 'D'. The Bantams are now 7-0 after beating St. Helen 40-8. Taylor Butigian tallied 12 and Lynn Rayder and Regina Paskoff six each. The Rookies are also undefeated at 5-0 as they outlasted St. Thomas More 26-19. The Intermediates unfortunately did not get to play as St. Thomas did not have five players available.

The Boys Subnovice A's had their highest scoring output of the year against St Rose. Eoin Reen and Chris Inga combined to run the offensive playbook to perfection a few times. Alex Goldberg, John Boyle, and Mark Butigian led the scoring.

The Subnovice B's faced off against St. Helen with Frank McVeigh shining on defense. John O'Connor owned the boards and James McElhatton, Noah Nicholson, Thomas Glynn, Brian Ostrander, and Ryan Moran all scored. The Pee Wee A's beat Our Lady of Grace as Chris Ray and Charles Gavigan led the scoring assisted by Tommy Morgan. Michael Newman stood out on defense.

The Pee Wee B's won another thriller in overtime, 17-13 over St. Stan. Luke Gersh and Anthony Scotto were outstanding on defense. Jordan Asbury, Thomas Baldrian, and Michael Tammaro controlled the boards. Ryan Hoffman and John Whelan led the offense with Whelan and Scotto each scoring in the overtime to secure the win. The Novice boys have started the season with wins over Our Lady of Grace, St. Helen, and St. Stan.

The Snickers Player of the Game has been Michael Buckley, Dylan Evans, and Paul Rayder. The Bantams are already running on all gears. Every player scored in a 53-14 win over St. Thomas Apostle led by Jack Hurley and Ryan McDade with 10 each. Mark Genovese was a bulldog on defense and Ryan Kilgallen was a tremendous presence in the paint, particularly on the offensive boards.

The Rookies were snakebit again as Holy Child did not show up to play. The boys scrimmaged and Robert Peters demonstrated his strength and rebounding. Eugene Boggiano and Chris Tsatsis excelled on defense while Ryan Meade, Danny Donohue, Liam Reen, and Pat Kilgallen played well on offense.

The Intermediates traveled to St. Thomas Apostle and came home with a 55-41 win led by the scoring of Jason Perrone.

Complete boys schedules should be available this week so check your email and don't forget, the Christmas Tournament is just around the corner.
