Children from PS 197, who attend the Virtual Y after-school program, were treated to a special meal on Thanksgiving Eve. The youngsters and their parents enjoyed various dishes (donated by parents) such as fried chicken, corn on the cob and fried rice - along with desserts like pumpkin pie and cup cakes.

The Virtual Y has 105 students enrolled from kindergarten through sixth grade. It is funded by the non-profit TASC (The After-School Corporation) through the Cross Island YMCA in Staten Island.

The program, which centers on helping children with homework, recreation, nutrition and wellness and values, is open Monday to Friday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. This is the second year the Virtual Y is having a pre-Thanksgiving meal for its children and parents.
