Turkey Gets Busted On Thanksgiving Day
Police busted a turkey from Far Rockaway on Thanksgiving after he was caught stealing a neighbor's DVDs and then tried to convince her that he was only trying to drop off a present, according to court records.
Theodora Oliphant told police she caught her neighbor, Wilberto Navarro, 39, red handed as he stood outside the door of her apartment at 25-04 Beach Channel Drive holding a bag filled with DVDs at about 9 p.m. on Thanksgiving. Navarro put the bag on the ground and said, according to court records, that "he was just dropping off a bottle of liquor" as a gift for the holidays and then scampered off to his own apartment.
Oliphant looked through the bag, but instead of finding a bottle of booze she discovered her own DVD collection and called the cops.
Navarro was arrested and charged with criminal possession of stolen property, according to Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown. Queens Criminal Court Judge Gene Lopez set Navarro's bail at $1,000. Navarro faces up to a year in jail and or a $1,000 fine.
