Protecting Homeowners From Pushy R.E. Agents
New York's Department of State is now in the process of updating its cease and desist lists for 2007, Senator Malcolm A. Smith has announced.
"The list prohibits licensed real estate brokers and salespersons from soliciting listings of residential property from homeowners whose names and addresses appear on it," Senator Smith said.
Property owners who want to be on the list must complete an owner's statement and return it to the Department of State no later than December 15, 2006.
"There is no question that the entire Metropolitan area has been in the midst of a real estate boon. Unfortunately, there are some agents who are simply overzealous in their efforts to drum up business. You can save yourself plenty of headaches by registering," Senator Smith noted.
The Queens lawmaker also said that property owners who are on the July list do not need to submit a new owner's statement.
