Title Win Goes To St. Francis de Sales 4th Graders Boys
The St. Francis de Sales 4th grade boys started the weekend off playing in the South Finals Games on Saturday against Hope. The game was scoreless into the last ten minutes of the game until Anthony Scotto, with the assist from Luke Gersh, scored the only goal of the game. The boys went on to win with help from forwards Tom Lynch, Eddie Morgan, Michael Newman, Augie Ameruso, John Stewart, and James Marotta who kept the pressure on the entire game.
The halfbacks and defenders Max Frankel, Brendan Gallagher, Bard Featherston, Nicholas Cheng, Connor Ryan, along with Tom Morgan, George Baroudos, Michael Tammaro, and Kevin McDonagh were able to keep Hope scoreless with some great defensive plays.
With the win against Hope, the boys advanced to the Diocesan Championship Game against De Sales 1, which turned out to be the most exciting game of the year. In the first half Jimmy Howard scored the first goal of the game assisted by Anthony Scotto. It was a never ending battle with great plays by Connor Ryan, Tom Lynch, Bard Featherston, Tom Morgan, Kevin McDonagh and Michael Newman. In the second half the game was tied due to a penalty kick, and was sent into overtime, but the game remained in a tie.
It would all be determined by a shootout. The big kickers for Sales 2 were Joe Brown, Luke Gersh, Anthony Scotto, Michael Tammaro, and Max Frankel with our goalie the wall Aidan Morgan who had 2 key saves in the shootout. De Sales 2 was victorious in the end and concluded an undefeated season. The boys should be very proud of themselves. They played their hearts out and never gave up.
