Peninsula Hospital Center, Broad Channel Team Up With Daytop Village
The Broad Channel Athletic Club and the Broad Channel Volunteer Fire Department continue their proactive approach to drug and alcohol awareness in their community. Enlisting the collaborative assistance of Peninsula Hospital Center and Daytop Village, Inc., several meetings have been held for parents, teens and interested local residents. "Straight Talk" is the theme of this collaborative community outreach workshop series which includes the dissemination of information regarding teen alcohol and drug abuse, types of drugs too easily available today and the potential of disastrous drug interaction. Also presented are adult education, awareness and recognition of signs which signify that someone may need assistance and/or intervention. Peter A. Guiney, D.O. believes that "Straight Talk" carries a very important message. "We host 'kids only' sessions and group sessions," explains Dr. Guiney. "It is very impressive to many young people when they listen to actual Daytop clients who have turned their lives around. These young men and women convey a powerful message."
