The chairperson of the City Council's Parks and Recreation Committee is scheduled to attend a meeting in Rockaway next week, where members of the community board and the public will the opportunity to brief her on beach and lifeguard issues.

Councilperson Helen D. Foster (D-Bronx) will attend the one-hour meeting at the Beach Club, scheduled for Tuesday, November 28, from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m., according to City Councilman Joseph Addabbo Jr.

Addabbo helped coordinate the meeting, which is a prelude to City Council oversight hearings tentatively scheduled for early next year, because several members of Community Board 14 were adamant that those hearings take place in Rockaway. Addabbo has maintained that beach and lifeguard issues are a citywide concern and that City Hall is the proper venue both strategically and logistically.

Members of CB14 unanimously endorsed a committee report last month that alleges unfairness and impropriety in the way the city hires and trains lifeguards.
