Bishop Kearney Cross Country Qualifies For State Championship

Bishop Kearney will send its cross country team to the New York State Championships this weekend.
Bishop Kearney will send its cross country team to the New York State Championships this weekend. Congratulations to Bishop Kearney's Brooklyn/Queens champions on their 5th place finish in the city championship. This qualifies them to represent the CHSAA league in the state championship this upcoming weekend. The team will be traveling upstate to Wappingers Falls to compete against the best teams in New York State from Niagara Falls to Montauk Point. This is a tremendous honor for Bishop Kearney's cross country team and the first time the entire varsity team has been invited to compete in the state championship.

The team was led by "the Rockaway three", Gallagher to Gallagher to Mullen. Team captain Kerri Gallagher better known as the Rockaway glider captured seventh place honors, followed by her sister, Mary (The Rockaway Breeze) 8th place and Tara (Belle Harbor Babe) 39th place.Freshman, Siobhan Fitzgibbons was up for the challenge ran a smart and gutsy race.

Sophomore Christina (Queen of the Hills) Hiltunen, Elizabeth (The Ridge Rocket) Monohan and frosh Meghan Hayes secured the teams 5th place finish and ticket to the state championship. Congratulations to the magnificent seven on this outstanding accomplishment.Our JV team also shined at the city championship with an eighth place finish against 30 other competitive teams. The JV team was led by Brooklyn/Queens champion, Sarah Donahue (Rockaway Park), Briana (The Bullet) Celano and Halima (The Hammer) Judeh. Patti Ann Fastquez, Helen Mullen, Aine (Lil Flame) Byrne and Mary Eileen (Queen Mary I) Kiernan breezy point were sensational in capturing the best team finish for the bishop Kearney JV team in a city championship race. Super job ladies.

Coaches' Pete and John Lovett (Rockaway Park) were very pleased with the teams focus and determination in the two championship races.
