Rockaway Ravens Win Super Bowl Championship
Tension was in the air. The Rockaway Ravens were the underdogs coming into this game against the NY Wildcards who went undefeated with a 10-0 record and has great athletes on the team.
The Wildcards opened up with a 35 yard run to the right side by Sean Williams. He was forced out of bounds at the 10 yard line by the Ravens' Isaiah Robinson. The Ravens put up a great defensive front and stopped them on the 10 yard line. On the Ravens opening drive it was a handoff to the Ravens #24 Wavell Wint to the left side for a 90 yard run for the touch down. The extra point was punched in by Anthony Shepherd. The Wildcards answered back with Sean Williams running straight up the middle for a 65 yard run for the touchdown. The score in now 7-6 Ravens. Wildcards was unsuccessful with scoring the extra point to tie up the game.
It was a battle of the defenses. No one scored in the third quarter. but in the fourth quarter as the Wildcards threatened to score again. With a first and goal inside the 10 yard line and with only 27 seconds left, the Ravens held down the fort as the crowd went into a frenzy. They stopped the Wildcards for four straight downs to regain possession and win the game.The Ravens celebrated their win by receiving their trophy and hats. Isaiah Robinson, #25, was awarded the game's MVP. The Rockaway Ravens would like to thank Jr. Midget Division coaches Travis Kelly, Sherod Moore, Denise Gilbert and Keith Nelso for a job well done. The Ravens will now compete in the regional playoff game to try to secure a spot to the AYF national playoffs in Florida.
