Proposed Funding For Local School Improvements

The New York City School Construction Authority has released project costs for capital improvement projects at 33 schools that serve students of the 14th Senate District, according to State Senator Malcolm A. Smith.

"During this past year's negotiations for education funding, I knew that repair and maintenance of these schools in my district was of the utmost importance. I was happy to support legislation that made these funds available," Smith said.

The project costs are part of the proposed November 2006 amendment in the New York City Department of Education's 2005-09 Five Year Capital Plan. The amendment must be approved by the New York City Council.

Here is a list of capital funding for local schools on the peninsula:

Beach Channel HS- $9,980,164.38

Far Rockaway HS- $12,708,103.53

IS 180- $1,807,461.36

IS 198-$285,735.97

PS 104- $2,092,834.77

PS 105- $82,500.00

PS 106- $711,557.55

PS 114- $7,922,921.68

PS 183- $976,577.33

PS 225- $3,182,523.59

PS 42- $6,560,798.27

PS 43 Annex- $248,250.76

"The proposed funding totals more than $110 million, which will greatly improve schools throughout the district I represent. As we continue to fight for New York City's fair share of school aid from Albany, we must also ensure that our students not be taught in substandard facilities," Smith said.
