BCAC Midget Football Shamrocks Lose To Wantagh

By Head Coach Gene Guttieri

A beautiful day for football was on tap as the Shamrocks- Wantagh game got underway. The Shamrocks were ready to play and a tough Wantagh team was also prepared.

In the first half, both defenses went back and forth making big plays. The Shamrocks defense was led by Billy Collins (1 sack), Eamonn (8 tackles) Chris (8 tackles), Phil 8 (tackles) and Pauly (6 tackles, 3 solo).

The Shamrocks offense did not get on track as a tough Wantagh defense would prevail. Wantagh got on the board first with only 8 seconds left in the second quarter. On a fourth and eight at the 8 yard line, Wantagh got the last second touchdown to lead 6-0 at the half. The shamrocks offense got rolling in the third quarter with a 44 yd run but fumbled the ball later in the drive to Wantagh. Wantagh would score twice more as they increased their lead to 20-0. The BCAC Shamrocks offense started to move the ball when mike Abrams broke a 65 yard run.

A holding penalty would erase the big run but the offense kept driving the ball. RB Ed Hoff would scamper on a 27 yard TD run and the extra point scored by FB Tom Kelly gave the Shamrocks their only points of the game. Though the Shamrocks lost 20-7, the young men played a great game and now they will get ready for the playoffs against Syosset next Sunday at 12:00 in Syosset. Come out and support the Midget team who finished with a 6-3 record. Thanks to all the parents, grand parents, and friends for supporting the boys. They are a great bunch of athletes.
