On Saturday, November 11, the Sorrentino Recreation Center will hold its 14th Annual Mommy & Me Double Dutch Tournament at 1848 Cornaga Avenue.

The tournament will take place from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

What's important about this tournament is that it is recognition of the importance of early formal training in Double Dutch. It teaches dedication, hard work and our greatest attributes. It is an opportunity for mothers and children to share quality time together while enjoying playing the sport and share responsibilities such as turning and jumping and learning what teamwork means.

There are four age divisions: 5 and under, 6 - 8 years old, 9 - 11 years old and 12 - 14 years old. The tournament itself consists of 30 seconds of turning and 30 seconds of jumping for each family member with a final round of 1 minute of jumping. This tournament is based on completion not places.

If you complete the tournament rules, everyone wins. The tournament had a total of 30 families participate. Special thanks go to the grandmothers, mothers, fathers, family members, friends and the staff of the Sorrentino Recreation Center for their support.

For further information, contact Stan Brown on Tuesday or Friday from 2 to 4:30 p.m. at the Sorrentino Recreational Center at 718-471-4818 or visit at 1848 Cornaga Avenue.
