Graybeards Support Marathon Wounded Warriors
When a handful of Wounded Warriors, soldiers severely injured in Iraq and Afghanistan, came to a New York to participate in the New York City Marathon, they first made a stop at a Manhattan firehouse and were greeted by representatives of The Graybeards who came with a donation of $50,000. The funds were raised mostly through t-shirts sales (to the FDNY and NYPD) and by the generous donations of Rockaway esidents. Thirty-one Wounded Warriors and their families had visited Rockaway and Breezy Point in July for a water festival and other fun activities. A welcoming and enthusiastic community turned out to cheer the soldiers as they rolled through Rockaway as part of a motorcade. Dozens of Rockaway families opened their homes to house the Wounded Warriors for an unforgettable weekend. Hundreds chipped in with time and money.
