Queens D.A.Brown Visits 101 Pct.Community Council

Queens District Attorney Richard Brown speaks to area residents and representatives at last week's 101 Precinct Community Council meeting. "Over the past 15 years we have tried to have a real presence here in the Rockaways," said Brown. "We have made certain an assistant district attorney is at each community council meeting in Rockaway." Besides reporting that violent crime is down, Brown spoke about his office's mentoring program for young people. "We need to spend more time with our kids and point them in the right direction. We work in prevention as well as prosecution." The commander of the 101 Precinct, Brian McMahon, sits in the background.

Brown also responded to citizen's concern about recent incidents in the Bayswater area, which are being regarded as bias crimes. "They were reported to me early on," said Brown, who elaborated by saying "my people and the captain's have been involved. Hate crimes of any kind will never be tolerated." Standing with Brown is Gian Jones, the president of the 101 Precinct Community Council.
