'Hate' Charge For Far Rock Man

By Brian Magoolaghan

A Far Rockaway man was charged this week with a hate crime for allegedly making a racist remark and then shoving a knife in the face of a female neighbor.

Edward Chernyakov, 60, allegedly said "black bitch, go back to Jamaica," to Andrea Niles-McCargo before he pulled out a switchblade and swung it towards her face, according to court records.

The incident, which is being prosecuted as a hate crime, unfolded inside 331 Beach 32 Street on October 22, police said.

Chernyakov, who is white, and Niles-McCargo also had a run-in at the intersection of Plainview Avenue and Beach 20 Street on October 19 in which Chernyakov allegedly spat on Niles-McCargo and told her, "Bitch, go back where you came from," according to court records.

Chernyakov is charged with menacing as a hate crime, aggravated harassment, two counts of criminal possession of a weapon and one count of harassment, according to a spokesperson for Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown.
