Fontbonne Gets Rockaway Contribution In Volleyball Victory

A busy week opened in the 2006 GCHSAA season. On Wednesday, October 11th the Fontbonne Volleyball squads met Bishop Loughlin in their first meeting of the year. Both the Varsity and JV Bonnies were able to defeat Loughlin in straight set wins. The Varsity was led by Senior co-captain Kristina Lundberg, who dominated the front line. Senior Britney Lynch and junior Pam Mendoza also contributed to the team's victory. On the JV side, the entire starting lineup played a strong cohesive game. Both teams awaited their Thursday matches with Bishop Kearney.

On Thursday, the Bonnies again met the Tigers of Bishop Kearney, this time at home. Despite a flawless first set won by the Bonnie Varsity, they were unable to maintain the momentum and fell 3-1 to the Tigers. The team was again led by Co-Captain Lundberg, with help from fellow seniors Kerry Murdoch and Alair Sheehan. Meanwhile the JV continued their winning ways by defeating the JV Tigers 2-0. Freshmen Sarah McCarthy, Justina Johnson and Kara Egan aided sophomore stalwarts April Shaughnessy, Maggie Sheehan, and Chissy DeMasi, in controlling the tempo of the game.

Friday found the Bonnies in Rockaway to face Stella Maris for the second time this year. Both the JV and Varsity were able to easily dispatch the Flippers 2-0, and 3-0 respectively. As the season winds down, the coaches and players can begin to look forward and begin preparations for the playoffs.
