Bethpage Upsets BCAC Shamrock Midgets
It started out as a beautiful morning as the BCAC Field was looking freshly painted. But the day would include an upset in the making as the Shamrocks fell to a record of 4-2 to visiting Bethpage, 20-7. The visitor's offense came out with a ground game that worked well and scored on there very first drive. The Shamrocks drove the football but got stalled with some fumbles and penalties. Bethpage started driving again and broke a 45 yard end around touchdown to make it 13-0.
The Shamrocks were held by the Bethpage defense for most of the day. Near the end of the second half, the Shamrocks offense drove the ball down to the Bethpage 20 yard line but once again fumbles and penalties got the best of them.
Bethpage scored their third touchdown to go up 20-0.with 26 seconds left in the first half. Shamrocks made RB Eddie Hoff (11rushes 123 yards) broke outside for a 60 yd td for the lone score of the day. QB Phil Jannis ran for the extra point to make it 20-7.
The Shamrocks drove down the field on their next possession to get back into the ballgame with the help of Hoff, Jannis, Tom Kelly and Mike Abrams. But two fumbles and a penalty gave the Bethpage defense a lift and they stopped the shamrocks again.
The Shamrocks defense of Eamonn Gavigan, Chris Manfre, Chris Moussa and Vinnie Spirito held Bethpage scoreless in the second half. The game was fought hard by both teams and the Midgets need a great week of practice this week as they face Seaford on Saturday night in BCAC Field at 8:00 p.m. Thanks to the parents for being there for the kids. Go Shamrocks!
