Margert Corporation's Home Fair 2006
A newly funded program for persons with disabilities called Access to Home will be highlighted at Home Fair 2006, a free, day-long event to be held in Far Rockaway on Saturday, October 28.
Sponsored by the Margert Community Corporation, the event is designed to attract families from all over Queens who have housing needs and are seeking information and assistance.
Funded by the NYS Trust Fund Corporation, the Access to Home program was developed to make dwelling units accessible for low and moderate income persons with disabilities. The program provides assistance with the cost of adapting homes to meet the needs of those with disabilities and enables individuals to safely and comfortably continue to live in their residences and avoid institutional care.
For homeowners, Home Fair 2006 will also offer free ownership and mortgage counseling, affordable refinancing loans and reverse mortgages, special loan programs, weatherization and accessibility modifications, health homes, home maintenance training and foreclosure prevention.
Home Fair will also offer homeownership education and training programs for future homebuyers.
This year's fair is also an HPD Preserve Assets and Community Equity (PACE) event. The PACE program provides comprehensive outreach, education, financial assistance and legal remediation strategies to combat predatory lending. Highlights of the fair will include the HPD "Handy Van"- a mobile housing resource center- as well as a guided tour of the Margert Weatherization vehicle, led by the agency's infield home energy efficiency experts. To pre-register for the fair, or for more information, call (718) 471-3724, or contact Margert through its website at www.margert.com.
