PBS Retirement Special On November 7
Thinking about retiring soon and not sure you've covered all your bases?
The PBS Frontline special "Can You Afford To Retire?" premieres Tuesday, November 7 at 9 p.m. on PBS (check local listings) and focuses on the challenges and opportunities created by the new retirement reality- workers bearing more of the responsibility for their own retirement savings and management.
AARP, a promotional supporter of the broadcast special, has developed an online quiz at www.aarp.org/finance to help consumers test their retirement know-how and support the television special. The website also features a retirement calculator and planning guide with easy-to-follow steps and advice.
"Our goal in promoting this special is to help as many as possible understand the retirement benefits of 20 or even 10 years ago are not going to be available for the vast majority of us," said Lois Aronstein, AARP New York State Director. "Instead, we must figure out how much money we will need to enjoy the retirement we've envisioned. In addition, many, if not all of us need to increase our savings and become more financially aware. Programming like this is a good wake up call."
Produced by Frontline correspondent Hedrick Smith, the hour-long special gives viewers an in-depth look at some of the issues workers should consider as they plan for or approach retirement.
