Peanut Shamrocks Rock The Warriors On BCAC Opening Night

By Mike Malsy

It was a cloudy night but the bright lights of Broad Channel Memorial Field were shining on our Peanut Shamrocks for their Home opener. The coaches got the Shamrocks chanting "Shamrocks Rock! Shamrocks Rock!" and stormed onto the new field ready to clash with the Warriors.

On the first Offensive drive, QB Cameron Manzi went under center and barked out signals to his huge line of Michael Henglein, Brian McNulty, Jake Murphy, Center Johnny Walsh and Charlie Bostwick. RB's Anthony Cimino, Matt Ostrander, Luke Hanning and Charlie Bostwick started the running attack taking the Shamrocks down to the Warriors 10 yard line. Anthony Cimino took the next handoff and broke 2 tackles for his 3rd TD of the season and an early 6-0 lead.

The Shamrock defense opened with Liam Malsy, Johnny Weiss, James Carson, Anthony Cimino and Charlie Bostwick controlling the line of scrimmage, LB's Steven Kenny and Patrick Minihane, Safeties Luke Hanning and Matt Ostrander stepped up to defend the passing attack and running game. The defense forced a 3rd and 2 the Warriors scored on a nice run to tie the score 6-6.

The Warriors and Shamrocks forced turnovers on downs until the Warriors scored with a minute left in the 1st half and a 12-6 halftime lead.

After some oranges and Gatorade the Shamrock defense took the field ready for action. Charlie Bostwick and Steven Kenny sacked a Warrior QB for a 5 yard loss and the whole defense stopped the Warriors on the next 3 plays finishing with a sack by Charlie Bostwick and Anthony Cimino forcing a turnover.

The offensive line dug deep opening holes for Luke Hanning, Patrick Minihane ending with a 5 yard TD by Charlie Bostwick (3rd of the Season) and a 12-12 tie. Defensively Anthony Cimino and Charlie Bostwick opened with back to back sacks and the line of Liam Malsy, Aidan Smith, Brian Bostwick, James Carson and Jake Murphy stopped a 4th down play forcing a turnover.

Steven Kenny and Liam Malsy opened the next drive with fine runs setting up a 1st and 10 from the 50. Matt Ostrander followed a nice block breaking 2 tackles sprinting 50 yards scoring his 1st TD of the season and an 18-12 lead.

The Warriors tried to tie the game late in the 4th Quarter, the line of Michael Henglein, Brian Bostwick, Cameron Manzi, Aidan Smith, Johnny Walsh, Johnny Weiss and Brian McNulty forced the running game to the outside but Luke Hanning and Patrick Minihane ended that drive with 2 TD saving tackles stopping the Warriors and ending the game.

The crowd was large and loud, the Shamrocks left everything on the field and it showed when they left the field smiling and ready for their victory hot dogs.

Next Game: Plainedge White Saturday, October 7, 6PM @ Broad Channel Memorial Field.
